Physimed’s Medical Imaging Center is equipped with a GE LightSpeed VCT 64-slice CT scanner (high resolution, ultra fast) at the cutting edge of technology, which provides an accurate tool for measuring and detecting anatomical structures and pathological conditions and allows clear imaging of moving organs. This allows us, for example, to conduct a study of the abdomen within a few minutes. The helical mode also allows us to obtain images of high accuracy that can be reconstructed in various planes or in 3D.

The CT scanner used by Physimed’s Medical Imaging Center uses software that measures the intensity of X-rays needed for each patient, significantly minimizing the radiation dose you receive without affecting the quality of acquired images.

Physimed’s Medical Imaging Center offers a full range of examinations, including :

  • screening for cancer (virtual colonoscopy, etc.)
  • screening for heart disease (cardiac scoring, CT coronarography)

Computerized Tomography (CT Scan)



The axial tomography or CT scan is a medical imaging diagnostic method that allows us to obtain cross-sectional images of the body using X-rays. The CT scan reveals the differences in density of various tissues depending on the absorption of X-rays. The images acquired by CT Scan are of great precision, showing abnormalities not detectable by conventional radiology or ultrasound.

During the examination, an injection of contrast is sometimes necessary to improve image quality of certain parts of the body. The test takes on average 10 to 30 minutes. The scan is painless and noninvasive, but it involves exposure to X-rays. This exam is generally not recommended for pregnant women.

The axial tomography proved to be an efficient imaging tool for various types of tissues, such as lungs, bones, soft tissues or blood vessels.The CT scan is used for :

  • imaging of the brain: tumors, inflammatory processes, stroke, intracranial hematoma, aneurysm, atrophy, etc.
  • abdominal or pelvic pathology: liver masses and nodules, pancreatic cancer, severe pancreatitis, intrapelvic masses, posttraumatic lesions, etc.
  • detection of lung tumors or cancer, pneumonia, masses of the pleural cavity and chest wall, lymphadenopathy, etc.
  • detection of vascular diseases or obstructions: congenital vascular anomalies, pulmonary thromboembolism, portosystemic shunts, aortic aneurysm, etc.
  • detection of bone tumors of the spine and limbs, traumatic fractures, etc.
