Bone Density Test
Bone Density Test is a diagnostic technique that assesses bone density. Bone Density Test is a simple, quick and painless exam, which uses low dose X-rays to determine bone mineral density, to evaluate the risk of fractures and to monitor the response to treatment.
Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by progressive loss of calcium from bone, resulting in bone fragility and increased risk of fractures, especially in the hips and spine. Women experience accelerated loss of bone mass after menopause, especially for the early onset menopause. A similar phenomenon occurs in men after andropause.
Bone Density Test is recommended for post-menopausal women, for postandropausal men, for patients with a personal history of fractures occurred in absence of trauma, after prolonged cortisone therapy and for patients with a history of potentially osteoporosis-predisposing pathology or treatment (hyperthyroidism, etc.). Since this technique uses X-rays at very low doses, it is not recommended for pregnant women.
This procedure takes about 20 minutes.
