Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that allows us to obtain precise and detailed images from regions inside the human body in virtual slices in the three spatial dimensions. MRI is a painless procedure and does not use X-rays. This technique uses a magnetic field created by a cylindrical magnet and radio waves to generate digital images. MRI is helpful in evaluating numerous organs such as brain, spine, joints and soft tissues. MRI has no known risks to health.
During the examination, an injection of contrast is sometimes necessary to improve image quality. The test takes on average 30 to 40 minutes.
Magnetic resonance imaging is used in the exploration of soft tissues, rich in water or fat, which can be the site of oedema and inflammation.
Since MRI uses a magnetic field, you must not wear any metal particles or objects during the exam.
The contraindications of the MRI are the following:
Physimed’s Medical Imaging Center has the newest generation MRI GE 1.5T SIGNA system that provides a complete set of imaging applications. Thanks to its large opening, this system allows easy access and insures patient comfort during the examination. The MRI system 1.5T SIGNA from GE has been designed to provide diagnostic performance in high definition and makes possible examinations without/with contrast.
