Echocardiography

Echocardiography is a medical imaging technique that allows the study of the anatomy and the functioning of the heart using ultrasounds. Echocardiography is the fundamental method used to visualize the shape and size of the heart chambers and the structural integrity (muscular walls and cardiac valves).

Echocardiography is a non-invasive and painless exam, which can be performed at any age and repeated as necessary. This exam takes about 30 minutes.

Echocardiography uses two modes: one-dimensional view (to measure the size of the main structures of the heart) and two-dimensional view (to see the heart as well as its movements in 2D).

Echocardiography is associated with cardiac Doppler allowing the analysis of blood flow within the heart and the circulation of blood in the large vessels (aorta, vena cava, pulmonary arteries and veins).

At Physimed, echocardiography is performed by the team of cardiologists specializing in echocardiography.

The costs of ultrasound examinations are not covered by the RAMQ, but are generally reimbursed by private insurance companies

If you have a prescription for an ultrasound examination, you can call 514 747-8192 to book an appointment. We will quickly forward your results to your physician.
